Recent: Nuclear Disarmament Experts Seminar: Report
Council Chair Robin Collins represented WFM - Canada at a consultation, "Restoring Canada's Nuclear Disarmament Policies — Expert Seminar, February 2008". Collins discussed nuclear deterrence replacement, and presented a brief historical overview of Canada's conflicted disarmament and security policies and the difficulties of influencing public opinion and policy. Recent: Prospects for an International Coalition on R2P: Civil Society Consulation Final Report
In 2008 the World Federalist Movement - Institute for Global Policy is convening eight civil society consultations in capitals around the world to discuss prospects for a global coalition for the Responsibility to Protect. WFM - Canada organized the March 7 civil society consultation in Ottawa. Recent: Response to Manley Report: No Exit Strategy for Canada Without Negotiations, [Press Release]
Canadian peacebuilding organizations are calling on the Government of Canada to recognize that the insurgency in Afghanistan cannot be solved militarily. The Group of 78, WFM – Canada and CPCC suggest that Canada needs to shift the focus of its efforts to the facilitation of Afghan-led political negotiations and reconciliation. This strong recommendation comes in response to the report released today by the Independent Panel on Canada’s Future Role in Afghanistan.

Updated: UNPA Campaign Milestones [pdf]
The coalition for a UNPA anticipates that, like the Parliament of the European Union before it, the Assembly would evolve and increase its powers over time. For example, the first member representatives of the people might be elected by legislators from all parties in existing national parliaments; but, at a later stage, candidates would be required to run for direct election by the people.
