Statement on the publication of the "Most Wanted" list of suspected war criminals, September 2011

A public statement was released in mid-September, signed by sixteen Canadian organizations working in the fields of immigration, refugee protection, criminal law and human rights (including WFMC), expressing concerns about the publication in July of the names and photos of 30 individuals identified as suspected war criminals. Canada can and should do more to support United Nations Peace Operations, according to two Canadian defence and international security analysts. In the last two years, the United Nations has deployed more peacekeepers than at any time in the organization’s history. Yet, some missions remain understaffed due to failure of UN member states to provide the mandated troop and civilian personnel.
