A co-founder of the Students for a Democratic University (SDU), he was a central figure in the unrest and activism that made the new Simon Fraser University campus newsworthy in the late 1960s and early 1970s. While receiving his diploma, Harding once surprised the crusty SFU chancellor Gordon Shrum by kissing his shoes.
